I offer a free initial phone or e-mail consultation of up to 30 minutes to discuss your requirements.

I charge £28 an hour for research, research reports, construction of family trees, transcription and translation. The hourly rate also applies to any necessary meetings. No charge is made for time spent travelling.

Additional charges (at cost price):
GRO certificates, wills, costs of travel, fees (eg for using a camera), specialist printing, binding, professional design of family trees

Payment can be made by cheque, bank transfer, or PayPal (all in pounds sterling please). For Paypal there is an additional charge of 6% to cover their fees.

If the commission is more complex we agree an initial outlay, typically 5 hours’ research time, plus any other costs (such as GRO certificates, copying, travel). I then provide you with an interim report, on the basis of which we discuss any further requirements you may have and the likely budget implications.

In the vast majority of cases I will be able to find the information you require. You should be aware that where, for example, parish records are missing or ancestors have slipped through the census net, it might not be possible. In the event I am not able to find any information I will still have to charge for the time spent carrying out the research.
